Frequently Asked Questions

How does uCV work?

uCV is the platform that helps you create an effective resume and also transform it into a web page accessible by companies looking for someone like you. Right after creating your CV, you can modify it as many times as you want, download it in PDF format and print it, or share it with anyone via a simple link. The platform is called "uCV" because it helps you create the unique CV you will ever need, and it is free for all job seekers.

Why are resumes also called "cv"?

"CV" is the abbreviation of " Resume ", a term that is often used interchangeably with "resume", especially in European countries.
The term "curriculum vitae" comes from Latin and means "course of life". Essentially, the curriculum vitae is a document that tells your professional life, your studies, your work experiences, and your skills. It represents your image in the job market, but its main purpose, always remember, is to get you a first interview for the jobs you are interested in.

How should the Resume photo be?

A well-taken photo, specifically for the resume, demonstrates professionalism and seriousness, qualities highly appreciated by recruiters. To take the best possible photo for our resume, we can use either a phone or a camera and follow these instructions:

  1. Neutral background, preferably white, even a wall is fine;
  2. Good lighting, I recommend a front light and one behind you;
  3. Appropriate clothing for the job position you are aiming for;
  4. No selfies or photos cropped from other contexts;
  5. Smile, it's important!

What should be written at the beginning of the CV?

Every time a recruiter looks at a resume, they ask three questions about the candidate:

  1. What can they do;
  2. What are they doing;
  3. What do they want to do in the future.

Consider that a recruiter can review hundreds of resumes a day and, therefore, has only a few seconds to decide if your resume is worth further consideration.
Therefore, the first part of the resume should be a brief introduction (a few lines are enough) to clearly and concisely answer these questions, the recruiter will be grateful!

Should all experiences be included in the CV?

No, it is not mandatory to include all work experiences in the resume, but only those that are relevant to the job you are seeking.

In what order should experiences be listed in the CV?

Work experiences should be listed in reverse chronological order, from the most recent to the oldest. This is because the most recent experiences provide a clearer view of your current skills.

How to create a resume without work experience?

If you don't have work experience, highlight your skills, other experiences (such as volunteering, tutoring/helping classmates, sports activities, etc.), and your educational qualifications and/or courses attended. A "trick" to align your experiences with what recruiters are looking for is as follows:

  1. Look at a job ad that interests you;
  2. Read how that job position is defined and make sure to use the same name;
  3. Read the prerequisites and tasks required for that role;
  4. Make sure to describe the tasks you have read well.

How to include educational qualifications, education, and training in your CV?

Educational qualifications and training courses should also be listed in reverse chronological order, from the most recent to the oldest.
Our educational path characterizes us as professionals, so it is essential to fill out this section in the best possible way.

What skills should be included in the CV?

An effective resume lists both technical skills (also known as "hard skills") and soft skills.

Technical skills are those you have acquired through training courses, university studies, work experiences, and that allow you to perform a specific job. For example: knowledge of a software, ability to use a machine, languages spoken, etc.

Soft skills are those that allow you to work in a team, solve problems, communicate effectively, etc.

Other skills you can include are those not strictly related to the professional sphere (e.g., music, hobbies, sports, etc.) and the skills you would like to acquire in the future.

How to include foreign languages in the CV?

Foreign languages should be included in the resume in a dedicated section, listing the languages known and the level of proficiency for each. The level of proficiency in a foreign language can be indicated with the following terms:

  • A1 - Beginner
  • A2 - Elementary
  • B1 - Intermediate
  • B2 - Upper Intermediate
  • C1 - Advanced / Fluent
  • C2 - Full Proficiency / Native
